Momme is the weight unit of silk: one momme is about 4.34 grams per square metre. Most silk pillowcases on the market sit between 16 and 19 momme; this one is 25, so it drapes more heavily and survives more washes. Silk has a lower coefficient of friction than cotton, and that is the physical reason it leaves hair less roughened and skin less creased in the morning. All three colours are plant-dyed.
Momme: a unit you can actually check
Momme (written mm, though it has nothing to do with millimetres) comes from Japan, and is defined as the weight in pounds of a piece of fabric 45 inches by 100 yards. That works out at roughly 4.34 g/m² per momme, so 25 momme is about 108 g/m². It is one of the few measures of silk quality that can be quantified directly — and that you are entitled to ask a merchant to show you.
